Law on Azerbaijani Citizenship (adopted by parliament on August 11, 1919)
Following the declaration of independence by the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic in 1918, important legal documents were adopted to establish the country's legal foundations. Among these, the establishment of citizenship as a formal institution was especially significant. Citizenship, a core criterion for maintaining state sovereignty, was first officially codified in the "Regulation on Azerbaijani Citizenship," adopted by the government on August 23, 1918.
Academician Kamal Talibzadeh
Talibzadeh Kamal Abdulla Shaig oglu was born on August 14, 1923 in Baku. In 1945, K.Talibzadeh graduated from the philological faculty of Azerbaijan State University. He was graduated from the Institute of Language and Literature after the Nizami Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR (1945-1948), defended his PhD on philology (1949), doctoral (1965) and then received the title of Professor (1972). In 1980, he was elected as a corresponding member and in 1989, an active member of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR.
A prominent Azerbaijani opera and pop singer Muslum Magomayev
Muslum Mahammad oglu Magomayev - famous Azerbaijani baritone and pop singer was born in Baku on August 17, 1942. Muslum Magomayev represented one of the most respected artistic dynasties in Azerbaijan. His grandfather Muslum Magomayev (1885-1937), was a friend and contemporary of the prominent Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov, and was one of the founders of the Azerbaijani-composed music. Magomayev's father, Mahammad Magomayev, who died during World War II, was a gifted painter, and his mother was an actress.
Mirvarid Dilbazi – the first female National Poet of Azerbaijan
Mirvarid Pasha gizi Dilbazi was one of the well-known representatives of Azerbaijani poetry in the 20th century. She was born on August 19, 1912 in the village of Khanliglar (now Musakoy) in the Gazakh district. After losing her father at a young age, Mirvarid grew up in the village of Dashsalahly under the care of her grandfather Mustafa agha. The rich spiritual atmosphere of this place had a significant influence on her development as a person. In the 1920s, Mirvarid moved to Baku to continue her education, where she studied at a Female Seminary.
Khan Shushinski: Coryphaeus of Azerbaijani Mugham Art
Isfandiyar Aslan oglu Javanshir was born on August 20, in 1901 in Shusha, the cultural capital of Karabakh. His father Aslan bey grandchild of Mahammad Javanshir who is from dynasty of Panahali Khan, the founder and first ruler of Azerbaijan’s Karabakh khanate. From an early age, Isfandiyar showed an interest in music. He stood out among his peers with his talent and voice. This did not go unnoticed. The renowned khanende Islam Abdullayev, also known as Segah Islam, took the young Isfandiyar under his wing and taught him the secrets of performing arts.
Academician Bakir Nabiyev
Nabiyev Bakir Ahmad oglu was born on August 21, 1930, in the village of Uchgovak, Agdash district. In 1954 he graduated from the philological faculty of Baku State University, and in 1960, he received a PhD in sciences. From 1961, he served as a junior research assistant, science secretary, senior research officer and head of a department at the Nizami Institute of Literature of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences. In 1970 he received degree a Doctor in Philology.
Renowned filmmaker and actor Shahmar Alakbarov
Shahmar Zulfugar oghlu Alakbarov was born on August 23, 1943, in Ganja, Azerbaijan. His father, Zulfugar, was originally from the Jabrayil district, and his mother, Izulat Khanum, came from a region near Tbilisi. When Shahmar was nine years old, the family moved from Ganja to Baku, where he continued his education. In 1964, he graduated from the Faculty of Acting at the Azerbaijan State Theater Institute, studying under Professor Rza Tahmasib. While still in his third year, he was accepted into the Azerbaijan State Academic National Drama Theatre, where he began gaining recognition for his strong performances in a variety of stage productions.
Art historian Mahammad Agaoghlu
Mahammad Agaoghlu Agayev was born on August 24, 1896, in the city of Iravan, into an intellectual family. After receiving his primary education at a madrasa, he completed gymnasium education in 1912 and enrolled at the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Moscow State University the same year. There, he closely familiarized himself with ancient Eastern art and literary-philosophical thought, which fostered his scientific research interests. After graduating from the university in 1916, Mahammad Agaoglu undertook extensive travels to various Eastern countries, including Türkiye, Turkistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Central Asia for further academic research.
National poet of Azerbaijan Fikrat Goja
Fikrat Goyush oglu Gojayev (Fikrat Goja) was born on August 25, 1935, in the village of Kotanarkh, Agdash region. He completed his secondary education in the city of Aghdash, studied at the Baku Railway Technical School from 1953 to 1957, and worked at a construction management organization in Baku from 1957 to 1959.
Mehriban Aliyeva is a vivid example of serving the state and the people
Mehriban Arif gizi Aliyeva is a prominent figure who has made great contributions to the socio-political life of Azerbaijan, humanitarian and cultural spheres, being an example of a 21st-century Azerbaijani woman. She was born on 26 August 1964 in the city of Baku to a family of intelligentsia. Having finished secondary school №23 in Baku City with a gold medal in 1981, she entered the Treatment and Prophylaxis Faculty of the Azerbaijan State Medical University named after N.Narimanov.In 1988, Mehriban Aliyeva graduated from the First Moscow State Medical Institute named after M.Sechenov with honours diploma.
