A virtual exhibition entitled “April Battles – The Beginning of the Great Victory” is presented at the Presidential Library, dedicated to the military operations that took place in April 2016 and went down in history as the April Battles.
The April Battles are regarded as one of the most intense phases of the Garabagh conflict. These operations, which lasted only four days, unfolded along the line of contact between the armed forces of Azerbaijan and Armenia and had a significant impact on the political and military situation in the region.
During the fighting, the Azerbaijani Army took control of a number of strategically important heights and positions around populated areas, achieving operational superiority. These developments clearly demonstrated that the status quo, which had persisted for many years under conditions of positional warfare, could be altered. From this perspective, the April Battles were not merely of a local nature but also represented a stage of strategic turning point.
Within the virtual exhibition, this important historical phase is presented through multiple thematic dimensions. It offers a structured and chronological account of the battles, including maps of military operations, participants’ recollections, and examples of acts of heroism. Particular emphasis is placed on the valor of the servicemen who took part in the fighting, the memory of the martyrs (shahids), and their self-sacrifice in the name of the Motherland.
The aim of the exhibition is to comprehensively and objectively convey to a broad audience the essence, causes, and outcomes of the April Battles, as well as to reinforce their place in national memory. This approach enables a consistent presentation of historical facts and contributes to a deeper understanding of key stages in the contemporary history of Azerbaijan.
As a reliable source of information for a wide readership, the virtual exhibition provides users with comprehensive insight into the April Battles. At the same time, this initiative plays an important role in shaping the historical consciousness of the younger generation, strengthening patriotic spirit, and ensuring the transmission of national memory to future generations.
