The Presidential Library launches a virtual exhibition dedicated to World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June. The exhibition features books, articles, and other informational resources addressing environmental protection, ecological security, protection of natural resources, sustainable development, and environmental education.
Environmental protection, the sustainable use of natural resources, the preservation of biodiversity, and the mitigation of climate change impacts are among the key priorities of the international agenda. In this regard, the first United Nations Conference on the Human Environment held in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1972 was the first major UN gathering to make the global environment a top priority. Pursuant to the decisions adopted at that conference, 5 June was designated as World Environment Day. Observed since 1973, this international day serves to raise awareness of environmental challenges, expand public knowledge, and promote a responsible attitude toward nature.
The virtual exhibition prepared by the Presidential Library constitutes a valuable source of information for a broad readership, providing insights into environmental issues, their underlying causes, and potential solutions, while also offering access to scientific and educational resources. By expanding public access to materials on environmental topics, the exhibition contributes to the promotion of environmental values and fosters greater sensitivity toward the natural environment.
The Presidential Library actively facilitates access to information on socially significant issues through its collections, digital resources, and virtual projects, while maintaining a sustained focus on educational outreach and public awareness activities.
Against the backdrop of growing global challenges associated with climate change, international cooperation has become increasingly important. In this context, COP29, hosted by Azerbaijan, emerged as a significant international platform for dialogue and cooperation. Held at the Baku Olympic Stadium from 11 to 22 November 2024, the conference registered 76,000 participants and resulted in the adoption of 52 decisions addressing climate change, sustainable development, and climate finance. The unanimous adoption of a resolution expressing appreciation for Azerbaijan’s high-quality organization of COP29 highlighted the country’s increasing visibility and influence within international cooperation platforms.
With the aim of documenting the outcomes of COP29 and showcasing Azerbaijan’s contribution to this distinguished international forum, the Presidential Library launched the “COP29 Azerbaijan” digital project, accessible at https://cop29.preslib.az/.
