The 44-day Patriotic War, which began on September 27,  2020, left an indelible mark on the history of Azerbaijan, restored the country’s territorial integrity and became a heroic epic for all our people. In order to perpetuate the memory of this important and historic event and pass it on to future generations, the Presidential Library has presented a virtual exhibition entitled “September 27 – Remembrance Day” for public use. The exhibition features works reflecting the course of military operations, strategic and diplomatic aspects of the war, as well as stories of the lives and heroism of martyrs.

The books presented at the exhibition include monographs analysing the military and political development of the war and the new realities that have emerged on the international arena, as well as studies reflecting diplomatic and socio-political processes. The main part of the exhibition consists of biographical and journalistic works telling about the life paths of martyrs, examples of heroism and personal memories of war participants.

In addition, a traditional book exhibition dedicated to Remembrance Day has been organised in the Reading Room of the Presidential Library. It complements the virtual platform and provides readers with the opportunity to view the publications directly on site. One of the most notable exhibits is a book entitled ‘Memorial. Martyrs of the Patriotic War.’ Published with the support of the “YASHAT” Foundation, this edition contains information about 957 heroes who died during the 44-day Patriotic War and in the following period. The book was compiled on the basis of official data of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is an important document perpetuating memory of Shahids.

Both exhibitions are of great importance in terms of preserving the historical memory of the Patriotic War, immortalising the memory of the martyrs and studying the events of those years in depth. These initiatives are a vivid example of the attention the Presidential Library pays to patriotism, national heritage and the education of future generations.
