World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. It serves to highlight the importance of the teaching profession in the development of society, the education of younger generations, and the advancement of education. The date commemorates the anniversary of the adoption of the Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, adopted on 5 October 1966 at a special intergovernmental conference convened jointly by UNESCO and the International Labour Organization. World Teachers’ Day is not only an occasion to honour the work of educators and acknowledge their professional contribution, but also an opportunity to draw attention to the importance of improving the quality of education, promoting teachers’ professional development, and protecting their labour and social rights. The role of teachers extends far beyond the transmission of knowledge. They make an important contribution to shaping the worldview of younger generations, nurturing national and spiritual values, and fostering a sense of civic responsibility. The teaching profession holds a distinctive place in the history and socio-cultural development of Azerbaijan. Representatives of the national enlightenment movement, prominent educators, members of the intellectual community, and scholars made significant contributions to the establishment and advancement of education, as well as to the development of an educated and well-rounded generation. Today, teachers continue to play an important role in advancing the national education system and in developing the knowledge, skills, and competencies of younger generations. The virtual exhibition prepared by the Presidential Library explores the history of World Teachers’ Day, the role and significance of the teaching profession in society, the contributions of prominent Azerbaijani educators and enlighteners, the principal stages in the development of education, and publications devoted to teaching and educational practice.
