The book “Пушкинский сборник” (“Pushkin Collection”), published in 1899 in Russian, was dedicated to the centenary of the birth of the great Russian poet Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin (1799–1899). The volume brings together articles, scholarly studies, poetic and prose works, as well as memoirs of contemporaries written by prominent Russian literary scholars, poets, and artists of the late 19th century. The idea for the collection was proposed by A. V. Amfiteatrov and was supported by leading figures of St. Petersburg’s literary circles. The aim of the publication was not only to honor the poet’s memory but also to direct the proceeds toward establishing a charitable institution in the village of Mikhaylovskoye. The edition is adorned with an etching by Professor V. V. Maté — a portrait of Alexander Pushkin executed with exceptional mastery, delicate linework, and refined artistic taste. The “Pushkin Collection” became a significant cultural event of its time, reflecting the profound reverence for Pushkin and uniting some of Russia’s finest creative minds in a gesture of grateful remembrance of the great poet.
