This rare 18th-century historical work represents a Russian translation of Polish editions of accounts by English diplomat Paul Rycaut, who served as secretary to the English embassy in Constantinople. Published in St. Petersburg in 1741, the book systematically documents the Ottoman Empire’s political institutions, court protocols, and daily life during the early 1700s. Blending diplomatic dispatches with ethnographic observation, Rycaut’s first-hand account stands as a valuable primary source for Ottoman studies.
