[ Mark Twain :: 1904 ]
Reisebilder
The book Reisebilder is a German edition of travel essays by the distinguished American writer Mark Twain, compiled on the basis of his works describing journeys across Europe. The volume was published in Stuttgart in 1904 in the German language. The collection includes humorous and journalistic texts reflecting the author’s impressions of his travels in Germany, Switzerland, and France. A significant part of the material is derived from Twain’s well-known work A Tramp Abroad, as well as from other travel writings by the author. With his characteristic wit and observational acuity, Twain describes various aspects of European life, national traditions, everyday customs, and cultural differences. The texts combine light humor, irony, and subtle social commentary, which lends the travel sketches not only an entertaining but also an informative character. A special place is given to the famous satirical essays, including reflections on the “difficulties of the German language”, which have become a classic example of literary humor. The edition is illustrated and supplemented with a brief biographical sketch of the author.
