“История евреев от древнейших времён до настоящего” (“History of the Jews: From the Earliest Times to the Present”) is a fundamental work by the German historian Heinrich Graetz, a professor at the University of Breslau and one of the leading researchers of Jewish history in the 19th century. The book covers the dramatic period of the expulsion of Jews from Spain and Portugal and the resettlement of Marranos in Holland, tracing not only historical events but also cultural, religious, and social processes that influenced the fate of the Jewish people. The edition was released in 1908, in Odessa, in the Russian language. The design of the book reflects the aesthetic characteristics of the turn of the century – an exquisite binding with decorative elements in the Art Nouveau style emphasizes the importance of the content. Today, the book has exceptional historical and bibliographical value as a source on Jewish history, as well as a monument to pre-revolutionary book publishing.
