Русские поэты в биографиях и образцах [Николай Васильевич Гербель]
The collection “Russian Poets in Biographies and Selections”, published on the initiative of Nikolai Vasilyevich Gerbel — a poet, translator, literary scholar, and bibliographer — stands as one of the most comprehensive anthologies of 19th-century Russian poetry. Its aim was to offer the general public as complete a compilation as possible of selected works by Russian poets, featuring not only recognized classics such as A. S. Pushkin, A. S. Griboyedov, and N. A. Nekrasov, but also lesser-known authors who had been undeservedly forgotten by their contemporaries. The works in the anthology are arranged chronologically — from M. V. Lomonosov to poets whose creative output was contemporary with Gerbel himself. Each poetic selection is accompanied by a brief biographical note about the author, which adds further value to the publication as both a literary and educational endeavor. The book was edited by the eminent historian and translator P. I. Polevoy and represents a significant contribution to the preservation and popularization of the Russian poetic tradition. It is bound in a hard cloth cover with decorative stamping, enhancing its artistic and collectible worth.
