Suleyman Mammadov's personal library was donated to the Presidential Library

On December 3, 2025, an event was held dedicated to the donation of the personal library of the prominent scholar in the field of history, Honored Scientist Professor Suleyman Mammadov, to the Presidential Library.

The event was opened by Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, who expressed her gratitude to Suleyman Mammadov's family for donating the scholar’s personal library to the Presidential Library. She noted that this step serves to preserve his scientific heritage and represents a significant event for the scientific community. Professor Afet Abbasova emphasized that the collection will soon be digitized in stages and made available to researchers and a broader audience, thereby creating a significant scientific base for future research.

Nazim Mustafa, senior research associate at the Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, PhD in history, spoke at the event, providing extensive information about the life and scientific legacy of Professor Suleyman Mammadov.

The head of the Scientific and Organizational Department at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Professor Ibrahim Bayramov, the head of the Western Azerbaijan History Department at the A. A. Bakikhanov Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, Associate Professor Jabi Bahramov, the head of the Department of the History of Northern Azerbaijan in the 19th-early 20th centuries at the A. A. Institute of History and Ethnology of ANAS, Haji Hasanov, and Associate Professor Fakhraddin Aliyev provided insights into the areas of Professor Suleyman Mammadov's scientific and pedagogical activities and shared their memories of his personal qualities.

It was noted that Professor Suleyman Mammadov is a prominent figure in Azerbaijani historiography. From a young age, he introduced new scientific approaches to many previously under-researched issues of Azerbaijani history through his research in the manuscript collection of the Matenadaran in Iravan, as well as in various archives in Russia and Georgia. The scholar, who worked for many years at the Institute of History of ANAS and later at the Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, was the author of prestigious monographs, textbooks, and scientific works. One of the important results of his scientific activity is the monograph "Iravan Khanate," published in 2010 by the Institute of History of ANAS. As one of the authors of this work, Suleyman Mammadov was awarded the State Prize of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

It was reported that after the scholar's death, his family members decided to donate his personal library to the Presidential Library’s collection, to bring his scientific heritage to a wider public. The donation comprises approximately 800 rare and scientifically significant publications in total, printed in Arabic, Persian, English, Russian, Armenian, Georgian, and Turkish.

At the end of the event, Professor Suleyman Mammadov's daughter, Konul Mammadova, spoke and expressed her gratitude to the leadership of the Presidential Library on behalf of her family for the attention devoted to her father's scientific legacy and for organizing the event.
