Presidential Library Hosts Round Table Dedicated to Composer Aydin Azimov’s Creative Work

On October 7, 2026, the Presidential Library hosted a round table dedicated to the artistic legacy of Honored Artist and renowned Azerbaijani composer Aydin Azimov. The event was held in the Art Literature Hall as part of the series of events organized under the theme “Heydar Aliyev and Culture.”

The event opened with welcoming remarks by Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library. In her address, she highlighted the particular attention and comprehensive support that National Leader Heydar Aliyev provided to the development of Azerbaijani culture, prominent figures in the arts, and the preservation of the country’s national musical heritage. Referring to the contribution of Honored Artist Aydin Azimov to the development of national musical culture, she particularly emphasized the distinctive character of his artistic style, as well as the profound philosophical content and strong national spirit embodied in his works. Furthermore, Aydin Azimov’s significant contributions to the restoration of the State Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan—composed by Uzeyir Hajibeyli—as well as its piano reduction and arrangement for choir, grand symphony orchestra, and large wind orchestra, were specially highlighted. She further stressed that initiatives of this kind are of particular importance in preserving national and spiritual values, promoting the creative legacy of distinguished artists, and passing this heritage on to future generations.

The event continued with a video presentation documenting Aydin Azimov’s life and creative career, his professional activities, and his contribution to the development of Azerbaijani musical culture. Following the screening, the composer addressed the audience and shared reflections on his creative journey, the circumstances surrounding the creation of his works, and the artistic principles underlying his musical vision. He also expressed his appreciation to the Presidential Library’s administration and the participants for organizing the event and for their interest in his creative work.

The artistic programme featured a selection of Aydin Azimov’s compositions from different periods of his career. Among the works presented were Ləzgihəngi (“Lezgihangi”), Son oyun (“The Final Game”), Hörümçək (“The Spider”), and Yol (“The Road”), as well as Ürəyim azaddır... (“My Heart Is Free...”) and Aylı gecə sərin olur... (“A Moonlit Night Is Cool...”), with lyrics by Dilsuz Mustafa; Ağ tut (“White Mulberry”), with lyrics by Rahman Alizadeh; Bayrağım (“My Flag”), with lyrics by Ahmad Javad; and Şər (“Evil”), with lyrics by Vagif Samadoghlu. The performances offered participants an opportunity to explore various aspects of the composer’s artistic legacy and provided an opportunity for a substantive exchange of views on various aspects of the composer’s creative work.

The round table brought together prominent representatives of Azerbaijan’s academic, cultural, and artistic communities, who shared their assessments and reflections on Aydin Azimov’s multifaceted creative legacy. Among the speakers were Kamil Shahverdi, Director of the Rashid Behbudov Foundation; musicologist Leyla Ahmadkhan; Honored Artist and Professor Aydin Talibzadeh; Secretary of the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan and PhD in Art Studies Ilaha Abdulla, and Nigar Akhundova, member of the Union of Composers of Azerbaijan and PhD in Art Studies. Particular attention was devoted to the distinctive character of Aydin Azimov’s compositional style, as well as to the specific features of his work in theatre and film music, vocal music, and other musical genres.
