The Virtual Collection Expands with Rare Editions

Selected books from among the valuable editions preserved in the Rare Books Collection of the Presidential Library have been added to the Virtual Collection. These publications reflect the literary, historical, and cultural memory of various peoples, introducing readers to the mindset, aesthetic sensibilities, and spiritual values of different eras. Presented in a digital environment, these works create a vivid and enduring dialogue between classical book culture and modern reading opportunities.

Among the editions included in the Virtual Collection are “The Book of Ballads”, compiled under the pseudonym Bon Gaultier and published in English in 1904; “Пушкинский сборник” (“Pushkin Collection”), printed in Russian in 1899 and dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin; “Les Rogimbot” (“The Rogimbot Family”) by the French writer Noémie Balleyguier, published in Paris in the late 19th century; “Nordisch-germanische Götter und Helden” (“Nordic-Germanic Gods and Heroes”) by Wilhelm Wagner, published in German in Leipzig in 1901; as well as the popular-scientific study “Über Rußland, die russische Kunst und den großen Dichter der russischen Erde” (“On Russia, Russian Art, and the Great Poet of the Russian Land”) by Karl Stählin, published in German in Heidelberg in 1913.

These publications encompass various strands of European literary and intellectual thought—ranging from humor and parody to the cult of national poetry, ideas of family and child upbringing, mythological worldviews, and historical-cultural analysis—thus presenting the spirit of their era in all its nuances. Each book serves as a valuable source reflecting the social interests, aesthetic principles, and cultural priorities of its time.

The Virtual Collection not only preserves these works but also makes them accessible to a wide audience, thereby creating conditions for a renewed dialogue between classical heritage and the modern reader. This approach makes a significant contribution to fostering interest in literature, history, and cultural heritage, particularly among the younger generation.

The inclusion of these publications in the virtual space is a clear example of the Presidential Library’s consistent and purposeful activities. Alongside preserving rare books, this work aims to reintegrate them into cultural circulation and make them available for scholarly and public use. It is expected that the Virtual Collection will continue to expand in the future, evolving into a digital cultural treasury that brings together selected works of world literature.
