October 18 marks the day of the restoration of state independence in Azerbaijan. On this day in 1991, the Republic of Azerbaijan declared the re-establishment of its sovereignty and independence after breaking away from the Soviet Union. This day is celebrated as a symbol of the nation’s triumph in achieving the ideals of freedom, sovereignty, and national statehood, and it occupies a significant place in the country’s historical and cultural memory. 18 October also serves as a reminder of the unity and patriotic spirit of the Azerbaijani people in their struggle for independence.
On the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the restoration of the state independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Presidential Library has launched a virtual exhibition titled “18 October — Restoration of State Independence Day.” The exhibition features a collection of books dedicated to the history of Azerbaijan’s independence.
The aim of the exhibition, in line with the core mission of the Presidential Library, is to familiarize readers with the historical milestones on the path to the restoration of state independence, to present official documents and other relevant sources to the public, and to contribute to the preservation of national memory and the education of younger generations in the spirit of patriotism.
