Musa Urud, chairman of Labor and Social Policy Committee of the Milli Majlis, member of the Board of the New Azerbaijan Party, and poet-publicist, has donated his authored work entitled “Explanatory Dictionary of the Toponyms of Western Zangazur” to the Presidential Library.

The book presents a detailed and systematic study of the toponyms of Western Zangazur – one of the ancient centers of culture and statehood of Azerbaijan, which was transferred to the Armenian SSR by the Soviet government in 1920 and constitutes a scholarly work of significant importance for the restoration of the region’s historical memory.

Drawing upon historical sources, archival documents, cadastral descriptions, scientific literature, maps, and oral accounts of local residents, the research traces the history, etymology, and cultural-ethnographic context of the region’s toponyms from ancient times to the present day. Simultaneously, the book provides a scientifically precise chronology of the deliberate alteration and Armenization of these toponyms in Armenia, beginning in the 1930s.

This explanatory dictionary represents the seventh scholarly work by Musa Urud devoted to the history of Zangazur. The publication is intended as a valuable academic resource for scholars, researchers, and students interested in the history, toponymy, and cultural-ethnic characteristics of the region, as well as for the general readership.
