Presidential Library hosts book exhibition commemorating the liberation of Lachin district

A book exhibition dedicated to the liberation, history and rich cultural heritage of the Lachin district has been organized at the Presidential Library. The exhibition showcases various publications on the history and culture of Lachin, the period of occupation, and the post-liberation reconstruction and development processes. The exposition features books, scholarly and journalistic publications, and article collections reflecting the victory achieved in the Patriotic War, the liberation of the Lachin district, and its subsequent socio-economic revival.

As a result of the counteroffensive operation launched by the Azerbaijani Armed Forces on September 27, 2020, progress was made in the direction of Gubadli in October, securing a strategic advantage over the Lachin corridor. On November 9, 2020, the villages of Guleburd, Sefiyan and Turklar in the Lachin district were liberated from occupation. According to the trilateral statement signed on November 10, 2020, the remainder of the district, with the exception of Lachin city and the villages of Zabukh and Sus, was returned to Azerbaijan on December 1, 2020. On August 26, 2022, Lachin city and the villages of Zabukh and Sus were also handed over to Azerbaijan, thus fully restoring state sovereignty over the entire district.

Currently, large-scale reconstruction and development works are being carried out in the Lachin district, with the transportation infrastructure being modernized and new residential areas and social facilities being constructed. On May 28, 2025, the Lachin International Airport was inaugurated in the presence of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The commissioning of the airport is expected to contribute to the socio-economic development of the region and enhance its tourism potential.

The books displayed at the exhibition comprehensively reflect the restoration of the historical and cultural heritage of the Lachin district, the reconstruction of the city’s former appearance, and the efforts undertaken to revive daily life in the region. Visitors to the exhibition have the opportunity to learn both about the process of liberation from occupation and the district’s contemporary developmental stage.
