In accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, dated July 31, 2023, November 20 has been officially designated as “Aghdam City Day”. In commemoration of this occasion, the Presidential Library has organized a book exhibition devoted to the liberation of Aghdam, its history, and rich cultural heritage. The exhibition features publications on the history and culture of the Aghdam district, the period of occupation, and the ongoing reconstruction and development initiatives following its liberation.

The exhibition presents publications documenting the victory achieved in the Patriotic War, the liberation of Aghdam, and the socio-economic revival of the district. It also provides a comprehensive overview of measures undertaken to restore Agdam’s cultural heritage, reconstruct the city’s former urban landscape, and normalize social life in the region.

The counteroffensive operations of the Azerbaijani Army, launched on September 27, 2020, under the leadership of the President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, culminated in a decisive national victory and the capitulation of the enemy. The Patriotic War brought an end to the prolonged and exhausting yearning of our people for Karabakh. The Aghdam district was returned to the jurisdiction of the Republic of Azerbaijan without a single shot. According to the trilateral statement, on November 20, 2020, the city of Aghdam was liberated, and the victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief raised the flag of Azerbaijan over the city.

At the present stage, large-scale reconstruction and development works are underway in the liberated territories. According to the approved master plan for Aghdam, modern residential neighborhoods are being constructed, infrastructure is being restored, and major urban development projects are being implemented. President Ilham Aliyev personally supervises this process ensuring its alignment with national priorities.

The exhibition organized by the Presidential Library constitutes a significant resource for in-depth scholarly engagement with the history and cultural heritage of Aghdam. It also provides a critical perspective on the importance of reconstruction and development efforts in the liberated territories, highlighting the broader social, cultural, and economic transformations taking place in the region.
