Rare Examples of Classical Literature in the Virtual Collection of the Presidential Library

The Presidential Library continuously expands the virtual collection of its rare books fund with new and valuable publications. The latest additions to the collection stand out both for their thematic diversity and typographic features. Works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the fields of psychology, fiction, lyrical poetry, and adventure novels are of particular interest.

This collection includes Anna Sewell’s famous work “Black Beauty”, Adolf Freiherr von Knigge’s “Über den Umgang mit Menschen” (“On Human Relations”) published in 1898, Peter Rosegger’s selected works “Die Schriften des Waldschulmeisters” (“The Writings of the Village Schoolmaster”) published in 1911, Adelbert von Chamisso’s “Frauen – Liebe und Leben. Lieder-Cyclus” (“Women – Love and Life. Song Cycle”), as well as the French edition of James Fenimore Cooper’s renowned novel “Le Dernier des Mohicans” (“The Last of the Mohicans”) from 1885.

These publications are notable not only for their thematic richness but also for their distinctive character that captures the reader’s interest. They are works published during the lifetimes of their authors, reflecting the literary atmosphere of their time, and they continue to maintain their relevance today. Published in German, French, English, and Russian, these books captivate readers with both their content and their refined typographic style, which reflects the traditions of historical bookmaking.

Short annotations prepared in Azerbaijani, Russian, and English for each book make this rare literary heritage accessible to a wider readership. The newly presented publications are regarded both as brilliant examples of classical heritage and as rare finds that attract the attention of book lovers. Their virtual presentation brings the rich collection of the Presidential Library even closer to the modern reader.
