On November 21, 2025, an international scientific conference titled “Innovations in Library and Information Activities in the Digital Era: Creation and Use of Traditional and Electronic Resources”, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Central Scientific Library of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), was held. The conference was attended by representatives from various countries, as well as Elmira Alakbarova, Director of the Archive of Socio-Political Documents of the Administrative Department of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Gular Aliyeva, Director of Book House LLC of the Administrative Department of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The event was opened by the President of ANAS, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, who delivered the inaugural address. Within the framework of the conference, the Director of the Central Scientific Library, PhD of technical sciences Huseyn Huseynov, delivered a presentation entitled “The Development Path and Mission of the ANAS Central Scientific Library.” A film dedicated to the Library’s centenary was also screened as part of the programme.

The Director of the Presidential Library, Professor Afet Abbasova, participated in the event and delivered a speech. She congratulated the Central Scientific Library on its 100th anniversary and highly valued its extensive activities and historical role in the field of scientific and information services, emphasising its significant contributions to the scientific development of the country. In her address, Professor Abbasova noted that the Presidential Library, through the use of modern technologies, provides users with comprehensive and accessible information via virtual exhibitions, an extensive electronic library, and thematic online projects. She also emphasized that the Library’s new website has been visited by 120,000 users from various countries, which attests to the international recognition of its library and information services.

The Director of the Presidential Library added that the institution currently offers readers access to 50 full-text electronic projects in three languages – Azerbaijani, Russian, and English. The total number of views of the Russian- and English-language projects has already exceeded 25,000. She also recalled that, following President Ilham Aliyev’s address at the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, important tasks were assigned to libraries. In accordance with these directives, the Presidential Library has acquired a number of publications in Russian and Armenian that document Azerbaijani toponyms which existed in the territory of Soviet Armenia. Professor Abbasova urged the library directors and researchers attending the event to engage with and make full use of the Library’s extensive holdings in this field.

Professor Afet Abbasova also emphasized the importance of several key areas in the work of modern libraries, including digitization, the expansion of electronic services, the application of artificial intelligence technologies, the engagement of young people in research activities, and international cooperation. She underlined that the fundamental purpose of all these innovative approaches is the dissemination of knowledge and the promotion of public enlightenment. Following her speech, Professor Abbasova presented the Director of the Central Scientific Library, Huseyn Huseynov, with the book “Nakhchivan Carpet Weaving: Tradition and Modernity.”

At the conclusion of the conference, a number of employees of the Central Scientific Library, as well as Director Huseyn Huseynov, were awarded the ANAS Badge of Honor for their long-term productive service and contributions to the development of library and information services.
