The International Conference on “The Role of Libraries in the Preservation of National and Moral Values” was held within the framework of the XI Baku International Book Fair, organized jointly by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the M. F. Akhundov National Library of Azerbaijan.

The event highlights the important role libraries have in preserving national and cultural heritage, passing it on to future generations, and educating society. The conference was attended by scholars, librarians, and cultural experts from various countries, who exchanged views on advancing libraries in line with modern challenges and digital transformation.

At the conference, Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, delivered a report titled "Libraries are a bridge that carries our values into the future."

In her speech, she noted that the library culture in Azerbaijan has an ancient and rich history, emphasizing the exceptional role of National Leader Heydar Aliyev in its formation. Professor Afet Abbasova stated that Heydar Aliyev consistently paid special attention to the development of library services in the country and often highlighted the important role libraries play in the spiritual and intellectual growth of society. The Great Leader stated: “A library is a sacred place for the people, the nation, and society; it is a source of spirituality, knowledge, and intelligence.”

Afet Abbasova provided information about the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Librarianship," which was adopted at the initiative of Heydar Aliyev and plays a significant role in establishing legal foundations in the library sector. She noted that this law regulates the activities of libraries in accordance with modern requirements and supports their social, cultural, and educational functions.

The professor emphasized the significant role of libraries in preserving national and cultural heritage, shaping the younger generation, and maintaining public memory.

She added that in the modern era, libraries have become not only sources of information but also important platforms for educating society and transmitting cultural and spiritual values from one generation to another. In this context, Afet Abbasova emphasized the importance of digitization processes, noting that alongside the traditional library model, the digital environment plays an indispensable role in conveying our national values to future generations.

Afet Khanum Abbasova shared her thoughts with the participants on the future development directions of libraries, innovative service models, and the expansion of international cooperation in this field.

This conference will serve as a spiritual bridge to pass on our national spirit, history, and values from one generation to the next.
