Nasir al-Din Tusi’s “Akhlaq-i Nasiri” Presented to the Presidential Library

The collection of the Presidential Library has been enriched with the work “Akhlaq-i Nasiri”, which occupies an important place in the scholarly and philosophical legacy of the eminent 13th-century Azerbaijani scientist, philosopher, and encyclopaedist Muhammad Nasir al-Din Tusi. Recognized as a leading theorist of ethics in the history of educational and philosophical thought of Eastern nations, Tusi introduced a systematic approach to the moral and philosophical ideas that had taken shape in the Middle and Near East through this notable work.

In “Akhlaq-i Nasiri”, Nasir al-Din Tusi’s comprehensive ethical and philosophical views on the human being, family, society, morality, religion, and social relations are reflected. Along with being a synthesized overview of classical Eastern moral philosophy, the work also serves as a fundamental source that embodies the author’s original scholarly perspectives.

In this work, the scholar systematized the ethical and philosophical ideas that had prevailed in the Middle and Near East before him, presenting their concise synthesis while also advancing his own scholarly conclusions. These qualities explain why no comparable analogue to this work has appeared in the Persian language over the past seven centuries.

For centuries, “Akhlaq-i Nasiri” has been regarded as a source of morality and ethical guidance throughout the Middle and Near East, and it remains significant today for drawing attention to topics that continue to be relevant in modern society. Published with exquisite design and rich miniature illustrations, the book is a valuable resource in the collections of the Presidential Library in terms of preserving classical scholarly and philosophical heritage and presenting it to readers.
