Academician Fuad Gasimzadeh

Fuad Feyzulla oghlu Gasimzadeh was born on October 22, 1929, in Baku. After graduating from high school with a gold medal, he studied at the Faculty of History at Azerbaijan State University from 1947 to 1952, in the philosophy department. He completed his higher education with honors in 1952 and enrolled in the university's postgraduate program in philosophy.
 
Fuad Gasimzadeh began his career in 1953 while still attending the graduate program at Azerbaijan State University. He dedicated his life to this institution, serving as a teacher, senior teacher, associate professor, and professor from 1955 to 1967, and as the department chair from 1966 until his passing. In addition to his pedagogical work, he served as an advisor to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan from 1990 to 1992.

He earned the title of Candidate of Philosophical Sciences in 1958 and Doctor of Philosophical Sciences in 1966. He was elected as a corresponding member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences in 1989 and as a full member in 2001.  

As a prominent representative of Azerbaijani science, Fuad Gasimzadeh engaged in the study of pressing issues in the social sciences for many years. His works focusing on the philosophical and aesthetic aspects of notable figures in our literary and social thought have gained recognition in the academic community. His research on personalities such as Mahammad Fuzuli, Imadaddin Nasimi, Abbasgulu Agha Bakikhanov, and Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh has made significant contributions to the history of philosophical thought in Azerbaijan. His insights into the intellectual characteristics of several cultural heritage monuments, including the "Kitabi-Dada Gorgud," have been well-received by experts.

Fuad Gasimzadeh's scholarly and pedagogical endeavors are reflected in nearly 300 publications, including monographs, textbooks, and articles. Under his supervision, a significant number of candidate and doctoral dissertations were defended.

He also successfully worked in the field of journalism, leaving a mark with his articles and presentations on the preservation of national traditions and cultural values in various media outlets.

Throughout his nearly sixty-year academic career, he consistently combined his scientific creativity with the educational process, contributing his knowledge and skills to the training of highly qualified specialists in the social sciences.

He contributed to the promotion of Azerbaijan's multi-century philosophical and scientific thought through his speeches at various international congresses and symposiums. He actively participated in the country’s scientific and cultural life and was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the Azerbaijan Republic.

His long-standing scientific and pedagogical activities have been highly regarded. He was awarded the "Shohrat" and "Istiglal" orders, which are the highest honors of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan, in recognition of his contributions to the development of education and science in Azerbaijan.

Academician Fuad Gasimzadeh passed away on August 3, 2010, in Baku.
