Academician Rustam Ismayilov
Rustam Hajiali oglu Ismayilov was born on 1 July 1909 in Baku. In 1920-1926 he studied at the Transcaucasian military school. In 1929 he entered the faculty of oil technology of Azerbaijan Industrial Institute and at the same time started his labour activity. He worked as a duty supervisor and workshop foreman at Budyonnov oil and gas plant.
In 1933 he graduated from the Azerbaijan Oil Institute with a speciality of engineer-technologist. Then from 1933 to 1938 he worked as a shop foreman, and later became a director at the same plant where he worked.
During the Great Patriotic War (1940-1942) R. Ismayilov was deputy head of the refinery shop of Azerneftekombinat and head of the Azgaz trust.
In 1945 he received a PhD in chemistry, in 1961 he received the degree of Doctor of Science in Chemistry, in 1958 he received the title of Professor. In 1959 he was elected as a member of the ANAS and in 1962 an active member.
In 1950-1952 he was the chairman of the Baku Municipal Administration, Deputy chairman of the Baku Municipal Administration in 1952-1954, chairman of the “Azerneftzavod” Society in 1954-1959, head of the Oil Refining and Chemical Industry Directorate from 1959-1961, Minister of Petroleum Processing and Oil gas industry of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1965-1967, president of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR in 1967-1970, head of the laboratory of the Institute of Petrochemical Processes in 1970-1972.

Great services in the improvement of thermal cracking technology of the oil refining industry of the Republic. He is one of the initiators of the processes of petrochemical synthesis in the republic, including the development of high chemistry in the industrial area of Sumgait.Under his direct supervision were carried out important work on the reconstruction of the Baku thermal cracking facilities, the study of catalytic flavored low-octane gasoline oligroin fractions, and the improvement of the pyrolysis technology of crude oil.
Creating a base of hydrocarbons for the development of the petrochemical industry of the republic is associated with the name of Ismailov Rustam.
The work of R.Ismailov in the field of alkylation and the polymerization of carbohydrogenic compounds was met with great interest.
Developed accelerated pyrolysis and the process of thermal stabilization of liquid products of pyrolysis. Created a technology for the production of sulfonic and carbon tetrachloride.
He is the author of more than 200 scientific articles, including 40 author works and 7 monographs.
He received the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, Honored Worker of Science after the winner of the USSR State Prize, awarded four "Lenin Order", "Badge of Honor" for his achievements in science and technology.
Ismailov Rustam Hajiali oglu died on June 1, 1972 in Baku.
