On December 7, 2011, the Presidential Library hosted a library staff meeting with Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Abuzar Khalafov.
The library director, Mayil Ahmadov, spoke highly of A. Khalafov's distinguished life, achievements in science, and significant contributions to developing librarianship. He highlighted that Professor A. Khalafov established a scientific school in library science and bibliography and authored essential works on library work history, theory, and methodology. Having been involved in scientific and pedagogical activities for nearly sixty years, the jubilee has published over 250 works, including monographs, textbooks, teaching aids, scientific articles, and methodological materials focused on the history and theory of library work, library science, education, and information. Notably, A. Khalafov is the first doctor of sciences in the field of the history of library work in our country, and has trained about 20 doctors of sciences and candidates of sciences.
The faculty members of Baku State University, including Professor Bayram Allahverdiyev, Associate Professor Elchin Ahmadov, Doctor of Philosophy in History Parviz Kazimi, Senior Lecturer Aliyusif Mammadov, and the Department Heads of the Presidential Library, Nazim Mustafayev and Zakir Ismayilov, discussed the jubilee’s scientific, pedagogical, and socio-political activities. They highlighted his significant contributions to library science and bibliography in Azerbaijan and extended their congratulations to him.
The event featured a presentation of the book “The Glory of 80 Years,” published by Baku University Publishing House. The book contains articles and memoirs about Abuzar Khalafov by prominent scientists and cultural figures of our country. An exhibition showcasing the scholar's works and materials written about him was also displayed.
