On January 10, 2020, the "Azerbaijani Diaspora" electronic library project, developed by the staff of the Presidential Library, was introduced to users.
The presentation brought together representatives from the library and the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, along with researchers specializing in the Azerbaijani diaspora.
The event was opened by Mayıl Ahmadov, the director of the Presidential Library, who provided an overview of the new project. He noted that Azerbaijanis have historically dispersed across various countries for different reasons. However, it was only after Azerbaijan regained its independence that connections with Azerbaijanis abroad expanded, marking a new phase in the organization of the Azerbaijani diaspora. Today, the Azerbaijani state guarantees the protection of the rights of its compatriots living abroad and extends its support to them. It was highlighted that the "Azerbaijani Diaspora" electronic library consists of seven chapters and 19 sections, offering a comprehensive resource for users.
The Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, Fuad Muradov, delivered a speech at the presentation ceremony, discussing the organization of Azerbaijanis living abroad, the efforts made in diaspora building, and the tasks that lie ahead.
Professor Elchin Ahmadov, PhD in Political Science at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, stated that the First Congress of World Azerbaijanis was held in 2001 on the initiative of the national leader and founder of independent Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev. Since then, significant progress has been made in Azerbaijan; the country has become stronger, and our capabilities have increased. He noted that while there were just over 200 diaspora organizations worldwide at that time, the number has now increased to 462.
Other speakers in the discussions shared their opinions on the presented project and provided their suggestions.
