On June 6, 2017, the presentation of the electronic project "Azerbaijan and the Islamic World" took place at the Presidential Library, with the participation of media representatives.
The presentation ceremony was opened with a welcoming speech by the Director of the Library, Mayil Ahmadov, who stated that Azerbaijan, being part of the Islamic world and giving prominent figures for the Muslim world and humanity, has always been a center of attraction. He mentioned that Azerbaijan, which has played the role of a bridge between the East and the West, not only preserved Islamic values during all political and social structures but also embraced progressive Western ideas and developed them in its unique way. It is no coincidence that the first secular, democratic republic in the Muslim East was established in Azerbaijan a hundred years ago. Even during the Soviet era, when the state fought against all religious expressions with the most repressive methods, the Azerbaijani people kept their religious traditions and national-spiritual values alive.
Mayil Ahmadov further highlighted that the ongoing global processes indicate that the Muslim world now needs more unity and solidarity than ever before. He noted that the key objectives behind declaring 2017 as the "Year of Islamic Solidarity" in Azerbaijan and hosting the IV Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku were to strengthen the unity of the Muslim world and to demonstrate to the global community that Islam is a religion of peace and culture. In light of this, the staff of the Presidential Library developed the electronic project titled "Azerbaijan and the Islamic World."
