Yusif Samadoghlu – 90

Yusif Samadoghlu is one of the foremost figures in twentieth-century Azerbaijani prose, endowed with a rare literary talent. Through his works of profound social and moral depth and exceptional artistic quality — including short stories, novels, and film scripts — he made a lasting contribution to the nation’s literary heritage. During the 1960s and 1970s, he played a significant role in leading Azerbaijani prose into a qualitatively new stage of development. His acclaimed novel “The Day of Murder” (Qətl günü) — a remarkable cultural phenomenon exploring the essence of humanity and existence — brought him recognition far beyond Azerbaijan’s borders. As editor-in-chief of major literary and artistic journals, Yusif Samadoghlu used these platforms as a tribune for the wider dissemination of national thought and ideas. He stood at the forefront of the freedom movement and the struggle for independence, consistently upholding the principled stance of a conscientious intellectual and citizen on matters vital to the nation’s destiny. The virtual exhibition presents Yusif Samadoghlu ’s works and publications about his life and creative legacy.
