Azerbaijani national press - 150

In the second half of the 19th century, Azerbaijan, having transformed into one of the world’s oil and industrial centers and experiencing a period of economic growth, underwent fundamental changes in its socio-political and cultural life. The enlightenment movement began to expand and the necessity for a national press emerged. Precisely for this reason, 150 years ago - on July 22, 1875 – "Ekinchi" ("The Cultivator") newspaper, published in the Azerbaijani language by the prominent intellectual, natural scientist and enlightener-publicist Hasan bey Zardabi, became the first example of our national press and entered history as a significant event in our country’s life. Today, our media, as an active participant in Azerbaijan’s progress and modern society-building process, has expanded its international relations and influence capabilities in the global information space while increasing its competitiveness. However, the current era—marked by changes in the world order, intensifying political processes, and the consolidation of new operational principles—also defines new tasks for Azerbaijani media. The application of advanced technologies, increased activity on social media platforms, digitalization, artificial intelligence, enhancing media literacy, combating disinformation and fake news, and active participation in effective communication are among the issues that will shape the development prospects of our media and determine its place in the global information space in the coming period. At the same time, while considering modern trends, the media must always uphold Azerbaijan’s state interests and be more proactive in informing the public about our country’s position and role in the contemporary international relations system, as well as the positive changes taking place in our lives.
