In accordance with the decree of June 26, 1918, the Muslim Corps was renamed the Separate Azerbaijani Corps, marking an important stage in the formation of national armed forces. According to the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, dated May 22, 1998, the day of the establishment of the Separate Azerbaijani Corps – June 26, was declared the Day of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan and is celebrated annually as an official state holiday. Today, the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan are recognized as one of the most modern armies in the South Caucasus. The structure of the Armed Forces includes the Ground Forces, Air Force, Air Defense Forces, and Naval Forces. The main purpose of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan is to ensure independence, protect the territorial integrity of the state, and the freedom of its people.
