The book introduces the poetic heritage of Shah Ismail Khatai, an outstanding Azerbaijani poet, statesman, and founder of the Safavid state. This edition was published in Baku in 1946 by the Society for Cultural Relations of Azerbaijan with Iran, in Azerbaijani using the old alphabet based on the Arabic script.
The collection includes the poet’s ghazals, which explore themes of love, emotional experience, and spiritual quest. In the historical sketch “A Great Statesman,” the author highlights Shah Ismail’s activities and his role in history, enriching understanding of a figure who combined the talents of a ruler with the gift of a poet.
Elegant floral ornaments give the book a distinctive expressiveness, reflecting traditions of Eastern book culture. The book is valuable for studying Khatai’s literary heritage and his place in Azerbaijan’s history and culture. The book was donated to the Presidential Library from a private collection.
