Слово о полку Игореве, Игоря сына Святославля, внука Ольгова
"The Tale of Igor's Campaign, Igor, son of Svyatoslav, and grandson of Oleg" is one of the greatest works of Old Russian literature, recounting Prince Igor Svyatoslavich's campaign against the Polovtsians in 1185. This luxurious edition, published by Academia Publishing House, is a true masterpiece of Russian book art. It reproduces the original Old Russian text, adorned with nine magnificent color illustrations by Ivan Golikov, a master of Palekh lacquer miniature painting. His works, executed in a picturesque manner, captivate with their refinement and depth. The title page, vignettes, endings and initials, as well as the font styled after a handwritten semi-uncial script give the edition a unique atmosphere of ancient Russian culture.
Golikov, a renowned miniature painter, worked on the illustrations for two years, and his paintings became the pinnacle of his creativity, marking a milestone in Palekh art. This edition, published in 1934 to commemorate a significant date, represents an important contribution to the preservation of cultural heritage. The book is rightfully considered one of the finest gift editions of the 20th century.
