On July 7, 2026, an event was held at the Presidential Library dedicated to the 85th anniversary of Honored Journalist Aghahuseyn Huseynov.
Opening the event with an introductory speech, Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, stated that Aghahuseyn Huseynov, who holds a unique place in the history of the development of Azerbaijani national press, has been distinguished by his productive many years of activity as a professional journalist, a capable editor, and a media organizer. She noted that Aghahuseyn Huseynov, who began his creative career at the renowned "Baki" and "Baku" newspapers established by the prominent scholar Nasir Imanguliyev, emerged as one of the most deserving graduates of that influential journalism school. Later, by leading these newspapers, he made significant contributions to the development of the national press with his high editorial culture, adherence to professional ethics, and principled stance. Professor Afet Abbasova highlighted that Aghahuseyn Huseynov's many years of work exemplify the unity of professionalism, responsibility, and civic position in Azerbaijani journalism.
Subsequently, a video was shown that reflected the life path of Aghahuseyn Huseynov, the stages of his professional development in journalism, and his valuable contributions to the Azerbaijani press.
Speakers at the event included Deputy Chairman of the Board of AzerTAc, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Media Development Agency Daghbeyi Ismayilov, film critic, Honored Cultural Worker and Honored Art Worker Aydin Kazimzadeh, Writer and Publicist, Editor-in-Chief of the "baki-baku.az" news portal Sharaf Jalilli, Chief Advisor of the Press Service of the Baku City Executive Power, Project Manager of the "baki-baku.az" website Deniz Mammadli, Honored Journalist, Writer and Publicist Zemfira Maharramli, Veteran Journalist Anvar Mashadiyev, Colonel, Chairman of the Organization of War, Labor and Armed Forces Veterans of the Republic of Azerbaijan Jalil Khalilov, Senior Advisor to the Chairman of the Education and Science Workers’ Trade Union Republican Committee Parvana Ismayilova, Journalist, Researcher, Culturologist and Japanologist Abulfaz Babazadeh, educator, daughter of Aghahuseyn Huseynov Nurlana Guliyeva, and Writer and Translator, Editor of the website baki-baku.az Khanim Aydin. They discussed Aghahuseyn Huseynov's role in the development of the national press. The speakers highlighted his significant contributions to preserving professional journalistic principles, developing the editorial school, and nurturing young journalists during his long tenure as chief editor of the newspapers "Baki" and "Baku". It was underlined that Aghahuseyn Huseynov, known for his high professionalism, objectivity, principled approach, demanding standards, and organizational skills, consistently prioritized the responsibility of the word as an editor. Publications prepared under his leadership earned the favor of a wide readership for their comprehensive presentation of topics, precise approach to facts, clear style, and professional editorial culture, securing a distinct place in Azerbaijani journalism.
Honored Journalist, former Editor-in-Chief of the "Baki" and "Baku" newspapers, Aghahuseyn Huseynov, regarded the holding of his anniversary at the Presidential Library as a high expression of appreciation for his life and work. He expressed sincere gratitude to the event’s organizers and participants for the attention and respect shown.
The Director of the Presidential Library, Professor Afet Abbasova, concluded the event by noting that Aghahuseyn Huseynov's rich life journey and extensive editorial experience fully reflect a stage in the professional development of Azerbaijani journalism. She stated that responsibility for words, an objective stance, and commitment to national press traditions are among the key qualities that characterize Aghahuseyn Huseynov's work.
Professor Afet Abbasova emphasized that the study and promotion of the legacy of such distinguished intellectuals is significant not only for the history of the press but also for the investigation of the country's social thought history. She added that the Presidential Library will continue its efforts to collect, preserve, research, and make accessible the rich heritage of notable intellectuals who have made valuable contributions to Azerbaijan’s statehood, science, culture, and national media.
