On 5 December 2025, the Western Azerbaijan Community organized the third International Conference in Baku on the theme “Cultural Heritage and the Right of Return: Restoring the Cultural Heritage of Azerbaijanis Displaced from Armenia - as a Path to Justice, Reconciliation, and Peace.”
Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, and Nazim Mustafa, Advisor to the Director and PhD in History, Associate Professor, took part in the conference.
A video presentation on the activities of the Western Azerbaijan Community was shown at the opening of the conference. Subsequently, Adalat Valiyev, Head of the Department for Relations with Political Parties and the Legislative Authority of the Presidential Administration, read President Ilham Aliyev’s address to the conference participants.
The event included discussions on the state of cultural heritage belonging to Azerbaijanis in the territory of Armenia, its preservation and restoration, as well as the assessment of the right of return in the context of international law and the protection of cultural heritage.
At the conference, panels were organized on the following topics: “The Right of Return and Cultural Heritage: Legal and Moral Foundations,” “Tangible Heritage: Safeguarding the Physical Foundations of Return,” “Intangible Heritage: Revitalizing the Living Foundations of Return,” and “International Cooperation: Mobilizing Global Support.”
The event was attended by more than 100 foreign guests and local experts from over 60 countries, who engaged in discussions and exchanged views.
