On June 11, 2026, a roundtable discussion was held at the Presidential Library dedicated to the book "Heydar Aliyev's Western Azerbaijan Policy: Historical and Political Succession" by Leyla Jalalova, Doctor of Philosophy in History and Head of the Western Azerbaijan Research Center of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University (ASPU).

Participants in the event first observed a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's sovereignty.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, Professor Afet Khanum Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, emphasized that the issue of Western Azerbaijan is one of the most important priorities of state policy. She noted the significant importance of the presented monograph for analyzing this strategic direction, laid down by National Leader Heydar Aliyev and decisively continued today by President Ilham Aliyev, from a scholarly perspective. Afet Khanum specifically stated that one of the most impactful aspects of the work is its illumination of the genocides, deportations, and repressions faced by our compatriots, exemplified by the family of the National Leader, Heydar Aliyev, against the backdrop of their suffering.

Subsequently, a video showcasing the book's theme and its scholarly and historical significance was presented.

Speaking at the round table, the author of the book's idea, ASPU's Vice-Rector for International Relations, Professor Mahira Huseynova, and Professor, Rector of Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University, Jafar Jafarov, Members of Parliament, Sadig Gurbanov, Rizvan Nabiyev, Parvin Karimzadeh, Malahat Ibrahimgizi, and Azer Allahveranov, discussed the topic's relevance. The speakers noted that the book is a valuable resource for defending the right of our compatriots to return to their historical lands on an international level and for preserving the national memory of the younger generation.

In their speeches, Mushfig Ramazanov, Doctor of Philosophy in Economics and Head of the Department at the Heydar Aliyev Academy of the State Security Service, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Professor Jabi Bahramov, and Nazim Mustafa, Doctor of Philosophy in History and Advisor to the Director of the Presidential Library, addressed the scholarly and historical significance of the work. It was stated that the book systematically examines the realities concerning Western Azerbaijan based on archival documents, the political-legal aspects of deportation processes, and the far-sighted activities of the Great Leader in this regard.

Samad Vakilov, a member of the Board of Directors of the West Azerbaijan Community and a lawyer, and Professor Ibrahim Bayramov highlighted the legal and public aspects of the issue, noting parallels between the goals set by the Community and those of such scholarly research.

The author of the book, Leyla Jalalova, Doctor of Philosophy in History, provided information about the research process and expressed her deep gratitude to the leadership of the Presidential Library and the participants for organizing the event.

Professor Afet Abbasova, speaking at the end of the event, stated that this monograph, presented to the academic community, will serve as an excellent foundation for future research and wished the author creative success.
