An event titled "The Legacy of Mirza Gadim Iravani in the Presidential Library" was held at the Presidential Library

In accordance with the Decree of President Ilham Aliyev on the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the outstanding artist, founder of Azerbaijani easel painting, Mirza Gadim Iravani, an event entitled "The Legacy of Mirza Gadim Iravani in the Presidential Library" was held on December 26, 2025, in the Conference Hall of the Presidential Library.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, Professor Afet Abbasova, Director of the Presidential Library, emphasized the significant role Mirza Gadim Iravani played in the development of Azerbaijani fine arts and the prominence of his creative legacy in our national cultural heritage.

A postcard depicting Mirza Gadim Iravani's Portrait of Qajar Prince Vajihullah Mirza, published by the Moscow publishing house "IZOGIZ" in 1959, was exhibited as part of the event.

As a follow-up, a video dedicated to the life and work of Mirza Gadim Iravani was displayed. The video clearly presents the creative journey of the outstanding artist, his artistic heritage, and his contributions to our national art. Additionally, the video showcases photos of the Khan's Palace and murals restored by Mirza Gadim, which are featured in books published in English, Russian, and Armenian, housed in the Rare Books Collection of the Presidential Library. 

The event was attended by well-known Azerbaijani scientists, as well as notable figures in culture, the arts, and public life. Doctor of Philsophy in History, Advisor to the Director of the Presidential Library, Nazim Mustafa, Doctor of Philosophy in Art History, Head of the Administration of the Western Azerbaijan Community, Galib Gasimov, Doctor of Philosophy in History, Head of the Western Azerbaijan History Department at the Institute of History and Ethnology named after A. A. Bakikhanov of ANAS, Jabi Bahramov, great-grandson of Mirza Gadim Iravani, Ilham Bayramov, Director of the Azerbaijan National Museum of Art, Doctor of Philosophy in Art History, and Associate Professor, Shirin Malikova, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor of Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Arts, Durdana Vakilova, and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor, Writer and Publicist, Sharaf Jalilli, spoke at the event. The speakers discussed the importance of studying, preserving, and promoting the artistic heritage of Mirza Gadim Iravani, highlighting that his portraiture represents a remarkable chapter in Azerbaijani realistic fine art. They emphasized that conveying the legacy of Mirza Gadim Iravani to future generations is a key area of cultural policy, with detailed information provided about the history of the city of Iravan.

The event was significant in promoting the rich heritage of Mirza Gadim Iravani, preserving our national and cultural heritage, and presenting it to the public in a more extensive manner.
