Professor Vugar Garadaghli, Head of the Department of Arabic Philology, has donated to the Presidential Library his monograph “Differences in Qur’anic Recitation: A Comparative Analysis Based on the Narrations of Hafs and Shu‘bah from Asim” and the textbook “Classification and Conjugation of the Verb in Modern Standard Arabic”.

The monograph “Differences in Qur’anic Recitation: A Comparative Analysis Based on the Narrations of Hafs and Shu‘bah from Asim” is devoted to a philological analysis of the differences in recitation between the narrations of Hafs and Shu‘bah transmitted from Asim ibn Abi al-Najud. The study examines differences in recitation from phonetic, lexical and grammatical perspectives. The work provides a detailed analysis of the substitution and weakening of certain consonants, assimilation and accommodation, merging and non-merging, sound deletion, vowel reduction and other phonetic changes.

The monograph also examines differences in verbs across various grammatical categories, changes occurring in syntactic structures and the use of words with different morphological patterns. The work is a philological study of the phonetic and grammatical features of Qur’anic recitations.

The publication is intended for linguists conducting research on the Arabic language, as well as specialists in the field of Qur’anic studies.

The textbook “Classification and Conjugation of the Verb in Modern Standard Arabic” presents a classification of Arabic verbs according to the number and characteristics of their root consonants, as well as their morphological forms. In 380 tables, the publication presents regular Arabic verbs with three and four root consonants, as well as irregular verbs whose conjugation involves phonetic changes.

The conjugation tables present the simple and derived forms of verbs, their past and present-future forms, imperative forms, light and heavy emphatic forms, active and passive voices, as well as indicative, subjunctive and jussive moods. In addition to the root consonants of the verbs, the tables also provide the corresponding active participle, passive participle and verbal noun forms, translations of the verbs and transcriptions of the patterns.

Intended for students pursuing bachelor’s degree programmes, the textbook may also be used by university lecturers, researchers, research degree candidates and doctoral students.
