Professor Vefa Kurban, Head of the Department of Social, Economic and Political Relations of the Turkic World at the Institute of Turkic World Studies of Ege University in the Republic of Türkiye, has donated her new books in Turkish and English to the Presidential Library. Serving as important sources in the fields of history, political science and international relations, these publications are of particular significance for the study of the South Caucasus and Russia–Türkiye relations, as well as for conveying the realities of Garabagh to the international community.
One of the publications is the Turkish-language book “Sovyet Sosyalist Cumhuriyetler Birliği Tarihi” (“History of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics”). Consisting of five main sections, this comprehensive work provides a detailed account of the formation of the USSR, its policies during the First and Second World Wars, the Cold War years, the periods of restructuring (perestroika) and openness (glasnost), as well as the crisis of the system and the stages leading to the dissolution of the Soviet Union between 1922 and 1991.
Among the English-language publications added to the collection is “Russia’s Turkey Policy During the Putin Era”, which analyses Russia’s policy towards Turkey under Vladimir Putin since 2000, as well as energy, security and geopolitical relations between the two countries. Another work by the author, “Russian-Turkish Relations from the First World War to the Present”, provides a comprehensive account of the historical evolution of Russian-Turkish relations from the First World War through the Soviet period and the Cold War years to the present day.
The publication “The Caucasus Policy of Russia in the Early 21st Century: Internal and External Dynamics”, included in the collection, examines the internal and external dynamics of Russia’s policy towards the Caucasus in the early 21st century, as well as the political and geopolitical processes involving Azerbaijan, Georgia and Chechnya.
The author’s book “Historical Background of the Karabakh Conflict and Shusha, the Cultural Capital” provides a scholarly account of the historical roots of the Garabagh conflict, the geostrategic significance of the region and the historical and cultural heritage of Shusha, the cultural capital of Azerbaijan.
These valuable scholarly works, published in Turkish and English, constitute an important resource for foreign researchers, political scientists and specialists in international relations.
