A virtual exhibition dedicated to the life and literary legacy of Aliagha Vahid, a prominent representative of Azerbaijani poetry and a master of the classical ghazal, has been launched at the Presidential Library.
Aliagha Vahid is a distinguished poet who played an exceptional role in the development of the ghazal genre in Azerbaijani poetry throughout the twentieth century and into the modern period. Preserving the ancient traditions of classical Eastern poetry, particularly the Fuzuli literary school, he enriched this genre with a popular spirit, a vibrant colloquial language, and the socio-moral concerns of his time. His creative legacy stands as a successful synthesis of classical form and modern content.
The virtual exhibition presents the poet’s ghazal collections published in different years, selected works and aphorisms, as well as scholarly research and literary-critical studies dedicated to his creative legacy. It also features publications exploring the relationship between mugham (a traditional Azerbaijani modal music genre based on improvisation within specific melodic modes) and poetry, satirical verse and the poetics of meykhana (a traditional Azerbaijani form of improvised, rhythmic poetic performance, often delivered in a competitive format), as well as studies devoted to various historical stages of Azerbaijani literature. In addition, memoirs dedicated to Aliagha Vahid, materials from literary gatherings, and collections of academic conference proceedings have been included in the exhibition.
The virtual exhibition is intended as a reliable source for philologists, researchers, university students, and poetry enthusiasts. It constitutes an integral part of the Presidential Library’s consistent efforts to preserve and systematize the national literary and cultural heritage and serves to transmit the rich literary legacy of Aliagha Vahid to younger generations.
Furthermore, the Presidential Library has produced a video presentation dedicated to the life and literary legacy of Aliagha Vahid, which has been made available on its official YouTube channel.
