IV Congress of World Azerbaijanis
The IV Congress of World Azerbaijanis took place in Baku, the capital of the Republic of Azerbaijan, on June 3-4, 2016. Regarded as a historic event, this congress significantly strengthened the ties of Azerbaijanis living abroad with their homeland and enhanced national unity and solidarity. Organized under the direct initiative and leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, this congress became a magnificent demonstration of global unity among Azerbaijanis.
The primary aim of the congress was to strengthen the sense of national identity among our compatriots living abroad, convey the state policy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the world, and organize a coordinated struggle against Armenian propaganda. Over 500 representatives from 49 countries participated in the congress. Among them were leaders of diaspora organizations, public figures, scholars, cultural representatives, and our compatriots who have succeeded in various fields.
During the congress’s opening ceremony, President Ilham Aliyev delivered a detailed address on the key issues facing Azerbaijan and regional and global challenges. While highlighting Azerbaijan's economic successes, political stability, and increasing international reputation, the head of state emphasized the importance of a fair resolution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. He recalled the new realities that emerged after the April battles, noting the advantages Azerbaijan has gained in the military and diplomatic arenas. He urged the global Azerbaijani community to be more active in defending national interests.
During the various panels and discussions held within the framework of the congress, there was an extensive exchange of ideas on topics such as education, science, culture, information warfare, diaspora policy, and the promotion of the ideology of Azerbaijanism worldwide.
The event participants exchanged experiences and discussed the challenges they faced and the successes they achieved in their respective countries. In particular, there was a strong emphasis on engaging young people in diaspora activities, utilizing information technology to defend national interests, and increasing the involvement of our compatriots in the social and political life of the countries they reside in.
The most important outcome of the event was the Appeal to World Azerbaijanis document adopted at the end of the congress. This appeal specifically emphasized the importance of protecting the state's independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, strengthening national unity, and coordinating the activities of Azerbaijanis worldwide. Our compatriots were also called upon to integrate more actively into the societies of the countries where they live, while simultaneously promoting Azerbaijani culture globally and preserving their national and spiritual values.
The 4th Congress of World Azerbaijanis was a significant milestone in the history of the Azerbaijani diaspora. This event demonstrated once again that every Azerbaijani, regardless of where they live, is connected to the Motherland and ready to unite for its well-being and future. The Congress also holds historical significance in preserving and promoting our national identity and cultural heritage. This magnificent event, held under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, was remembered as a celebration of the unity of Azerbaijanis around the world and a symbol of a strong Azerbaijan.
